Snowy and cold to end the week....

... Wintry mix expected Wednesday night across east Tennessee...
southwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia Wednesday night
and Thursday...

An area of low pressure will develop across the northern Gulf of
Mexico Wednesday night... then move northeast across southern Georgia
and the eastern Carolinas by Thursday. Meanwhile a ridge
of high pressure over the midatlantic states will keep cold dry
air in place at the surface. Moisture will be lifted over the cold
air... producing widespread precipitation over the area.

The precipitation is expected to begin mainly as snow
Wednesday evening... then change over to rain by Thursday morning.
As warmer air rides up and over the cold air at the surface... there
may be a brief period of freezing rain and sleet during the
transition... which is expected late Wednesday night and early
Thursday morning.

In the Tennessee Valley and Cumberland Plateau... snowfall
accumulations are expected to be one inch or less. Across the
higher elevations of southwest North Carolina and southwest
Virginia... the Smoky Mountains... and the mountains of northeast
Tennessee... up to 2 inches of snow and sleet are possible by
Thursday afternoon.

Some uncertainty remains regarding the type and amount of
precipitation. Only slight changes in temperature can result in
higher or lower snow or ice accumulations than currently forecast.
Later forecasts will update and better define areas that are likely
to see accumulations of winter precipitation. Listen to NOAA
Weather Radio or your local media for the latest updates on this
weather situation.

This used to be one of those tracks we could a lot of snow from, but now they seem to pull up much more warm air....maybe it'll surprise us...yeah lol.

Still though, remember, a little deviation in the temperatures and moisture would really affect any amounts, but as of now things don't look to be coming together for ideal situation. So, as they said, stayed tuned to the local stations.... Also, some snow showers possible Thursday night through Saturday.

Highs Saturday may struggle to get out of the 10s and into the 20s with lows in the single digits to near zero or below.

I tell ya beamer, we are way overdue for a system to deviate just a little to give us a good snow. We have been so close the past two years but it WILL happen sometime. What happened to the weather patterns of the early to mid 90's that were more predictable and went in our favor?

Been asking the same question. Only good answers are climate change..and this year a strong persistent southeast ridge that's been holding it's ground. But other than that, nobody seems to know lol... It's bound to change, things will balance their way out as usual...hopefully haha.

Winter weather advisories are up. 2-4 inches of snow or less possible (the highest amounts generally across the highest elevations)...snow beginning this evening or overnight, mixing with sleet and freezing rain overnight into the morning and changing to light rain and drizzle sometime through the morning or afternoon. Could see some ice accumulation too. We could see more or less snow/ice depending on how well the cold air hangs on, so keep that in mind. These are tough forecasts when such minimal changes can have such big impacts.

Well From my part of Kentucky on east has snow advisories.

Not a lot is expected.

ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 9 AM EST THURSDAY.

RAIN WILL CHANGE OVER TO SNOW AFTER MIDNIGHT WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF
AROUND 1 INCH LIKELY BY MORNING. WITH TEMPERATURES BELOW
FREEZING...ROADS WILL BE HAZARDOUS FOR THE MORNING DRIVE TIME.

TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING BY 9 AM EST.

SNOW AND ICE WILL FIRST DEVELOP ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES.

The winter weather advisory is now in effect from 11 pm this evening to 10 AM EST Thursday.

A Mixture of snow and sleet will develop by midnight and continur through mid-morning Thursday. The preciputation may mix with or change to rain before ending. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are anticipated with the heavier amounts generally across the higher elevations. A bried period of freezing rain is possible.

Snowing pretty good down in Atlanta and through Northern Alabama right now, might be a little more colder air trying to hang. I see the NWS upped the totals slightly.
